you know you never realize how fragile your codecs are until you download some random codec in a vain attempt to fix some small error and it ruins every other program's relation to videos

system restore wins again

I used to have so many codecs installed back in the day that many things would not even come close to playing in most players.

I'd have to run stuff through WMP, Winamp, Quicktime, Realplayer, VLC, and MPC to find what would actually play it. It was a good time.

It's a delicate balance.

You definitely are using the file I uploaded in the first post yes? Because I added some codecs to that, that wouldn't come with just MPUI.

Also go to tools->options and add -vo directx to the line down the bottom, click apply and save. That should be the default anyway on windows so I didn't bother including it.

If that doesn't work I need more info on the file you're playing. While it's playing go to tools->show mplayer output and copy/paste the info from it.

I'm using the exact same version of MPUI that I have at work, the one from your first post. I have it on an external harddrive, so it is literally the exact same file. I added the line you said, still no luck. This is the output from tools-> show mplayer output:

Well that's your problem, the directx output is trying to convert the colourspace or something?

But I'm not exactly sure why.

Random guessing: You've definitely got postprocessing turned off? Running multiple monitors?

try -vo gl2 or -vo gl instead of -vo directx

opengl instead of directx

May or may not work. I think there was something extra you needed to do to run mplayer with directx on multiple monitors, I'll see what I can look up.

-vo gl2 returns an error when I try to play anything.

-vo gl gives me the same issue, sound but no picture

-vo directx:noaccel -adapter 1

I'm guessing it's a dual monitor problem. I've never run it on it dual monitors so I can't test though.

You can probably use -vo directx -adapter 1. Or just use -adapter 1, directx is the default anyway, and it looks better than with noaccel on.

Also -adapter 2 should make it run on your other screen.

yeah, I did the switch for adapter 2. When it had Adapter 1 in, I dragged the player to my first screen, and it worked for just the portion of the player that was on that screen.

Hey Dan why does your mplayer choke and die whenever I try to play sudo's version of Darker than Black?

For one, this is the size:

Notice how it's so big it doesn't even fit in the window. Also notice how there's no time indicator since the thing doesn't actually ever start playing. It'll just sit like that until I touch the window, then it just goes to hell. Taking that screenshot before everything locked up was pretty fun too.

Also, when I manage to close it, it doesn't actually close but sits in the processes and after a couple of attempts I get a YOUR VIRTUAL MEMORY IS LOW bubble from windows so I have to manually go into task manager and close them all.

What's up with that?

Sounds like your computer doesn't have the resources available to play this file.

i.e. your pc is too damn slow/doesn't have the memory to cope with this.

Can you play any other video that's been h264 encoded at high definition resolutions? What's your cpu specs/how much ram are you packing?

Microsoft Sez: Minimum Configuration (to play 720p video)
QUOTE
# 2.4 GHz processor or equivalent
# 384 MB of RAM
# 64 MB video card

I'm not exactly sure what the current real world requirements for playing 720p h264 video in Windows with Mplayer are though.

I think in reality it's roughly 1.8ghz for coreavc/mplayer 720p

changing the color output to yuy2 can help if the graphics card is what's holding the system back

I've never gone out of my way to get something HD before, so I'm not sure, but I've never had a problem with anything else just refusing to open entirely because it was too damn big.

It's like it doesn't even try. It just opens a huge screen then locks up.

I should be able to handle it.

For all future reference, this is my computer.

Oh and before everyone goes "ewwww" when I got it 4 years ago it was free. It actually came with money since it was part of a scholarship.

Does that Intel 845GL have it's own memory or does it steal system ram?

I'm betting it doesn't have enough memory to run this. Maybe you can change the amount of memory it has access to in the bios?

I could see how much ram Mplayer uses while running this but I'll have to download an episode.

Hahaha, that will end in tragedy for several computers.
